Awarded "Ensemble of the Year" in Rhode Island in its inaugural season in 2015, ENSEMBLE / PARALLAX is a new music and multimedia consort based in New England that performs 20th century masterworks alongside 21st century, avant-garde music in the European aesthetic ranging from composers such as Schoenberg, Dallapiccola, and Boulez to Hosokawa, Haas, Francesconi, Nono, Sciarrino, Berio, Grisey, Furrer, Feldman, Vanoni, Ortiz, Manzoni, and its Artistic Director, Farzinpour, alongside multimedia and video art in collaboration with award-winning artists from around the world. In only five seasons, E/P has commissioned and premiered over a two-dozen compositions and multimedia pieces, as well as numerous U.S. and regional premieres of compositions. Moreover, E/P is the only ensemble in the world that commissions and performs a new multimedia work alongside every single piece of music it performs!

ENSEMBLE / PARALLAX is kicking off its 5th season on September 26 with the first of two 4-city multimedia tours (the second one will ensue in Aprill 2020!) with a performance at Rhode Island College in Providence, followed by appearances at The Armory in Somerville, MA, and at Syracuse University. We're immensely excited about finishing the tour with our debut at one of the country's preeminent new music and multimedia venues, National Sawdust, in Brooklyn, NY. E/P will present an all Italian program, featuring the magnificent vocalist, Kathleen Roland-Silverstein, performing two stunning pieces by iconoclastic composer, Salvatore Sciarrino: Infinito Nero (Black Infinity), in which extraordinarily delicate passages are linked to the dark visions and utterances of the 16th century Italian nun and mystic, St. Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi, and his Le voci sottovetro (The Voices Under Glass), re-settings of madrigals by 16th century composer (and madman!) Carlo Gesualdo. E/P will also be presenting Stanford professor Patricia Alessandrini's gripping work, Nachtgewâchse, which echoes Sciarrino's powerfully dark aesthetics. All three pieces are accompanied by strikingly captivating videos by multimedia artists and directors Wolfgang Lehmann and University of Central Oklahoma professor, David Webber.

The season will continue with residencies and performances at Middlesex Community College and Stonehill College in MA, with an E/P commission of a new composition by UC Davis Professor Pablo Ortiz, alongside the music of Gabriel Erkoreka, Tristan Murail, and Peyman Farzinpour.  The works will be accompanied by E/P’s video commissions of multimedia by Zebbler, Francesca Bonci, and Seth Myers.

E/P will end the season with another 4-city tour featuring the beautifully mesmerizing multimedia electro-acoustic chamber opera, Island of Peoples, by Berklee College of Music professor, Gabriele Vanoni (which E/P premiered last season in NYC) with Malo Lacroix’s gorgeous accompanying video, alongside the world premiere of a companion piece to Island of Peoples titled Intolleranza 2020 by Peyman Farzinpour. The tour will take E/P to Providence, Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia.
